The project consists of the renovation of 825 feet long concrete fishing pier which was constructed during late 1980’s. The structural engineering services include the performance of design and construction administration services.
The existing fishing pier consists of a pre-cast concrete floor deck, pre-cast, pre-stressed concrete I-beams supporting the floor deck, pre-cast concrete pile caps and piles and timber railings. Portions of the existing timber railings have been designed for ADA accessibility.
Areas of the existing pier have deteriorated and need to be repaired or replaced. The deteriorated components of the pier include the damaged or missing expansion joints along the floor deck, damaged areas of the concrete floor deck, deteriorated segments of the wood railings, and deteriorated steel bearing pads supporting the main concrete beams.
The scope of work included the field investigation and evaluation of the existing damages, preparation of construction documents and cost estimate. Due to the age of the existing wooden railings and the possibility of frequent future repairs, a replacement approach for the railings was proposed which will be considered by the owner alternatively.
