The Kentland community center is a new building with an approximate area of 36,000 square feet and consists of gymnasium, fitness room, teen room, activity room, media room, computer room, IT room, administration area and other common areas. Our scope of services included providing mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection services for the design and construction phases of the project:
The building HVAC system consisted of eleven packaged roof top air conditioning units. Each roof top unit served its dedicated comfort zone and controlled by its thermostat. The selection of the thermostats and roof top units controls were coordinated with the MNCPPC representatives for connection to the remote Building Energy Management System. The ductless split air conditioning units were designed to serve the IT rooms and elevator machine room.
The plumbing system for the community center which included the kitchen was designed in accordance with the requirements of the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission. Coordination with the Washington Gas was performed for extension of new gas service to the building. The fire protection engineering services including the design of the incoming sprinkler service, review of the sprinkler shop drawings and submittal and coordination with the Fire Marshall.
The main electric service to the building was coordinated with PEOCO. The lighting (including site lighting), security, audio and fire alarm system were designed and coordinated with the owner’s representatives and suppliers.
Some of the green related design items included utilization of solar energy, compliance with ASHRAE 90.1 for lighting system and use of CO2 sensor to control ventilation air through the HVAC system.
Coordination with the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) was performed and obtained the required plumbing permit. The underground domestic water piping was extended from the building to a remote water fountain on the site.
